It encompasses a wide spectrum of cognitive styles and neurotypes, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, and Tourette Syndrome, alongside other processing styles.

Historically, standard workplace environments, processes, and social dynamics were designed around majority norms. As a result, neuro-minority employees are often required to continually adapt to systems that do not align with how their brains operate best.

Creating an inclusive workplace means designing flexibility into everyday practices so that employees can access what they need to thrive without feeling exposed or judged. This guide provides actionable strategies and supportive measures to help organizations, managers, and employees build a workplace culture that is more inclusive to all neurotypes.

Core Realities of Neurodiversity At Work

  • Lack of universal access to support: Support should never be contingent on a formal diagnosis or personal disclosure. Many employees may not have access to a formal diagnosis due to systemic barriers or costs, while others may choose not to disclose due to fear of stigma. Truly inclusive work environments means designing systems where supportive tools are available by default to everyone.

  • Support needs are context-dependent: Support needs do not define an individual's competence.
