My position has been made redundant.

It may feel absurd to lose my job a month after losing my boobs. Instead of bitterness, I'm choosing to see this as a meaningful pause to focus on recovery.

So much has happened within the first half of this year. I knew that retrenchment was coming after the parent organization was acquired, but I didn't realize it would come as soon as I return to work after losing both breasts to cancer.

While I grieve the double losses, I am grateful for this unexpected pause. With no more work deliverables, I can truly focus on my recovery. I tell myself not to rush to find the next job, but to take the time I need to review my options.

Honestly, I'm a little concerned about my employability. Since 2023, I have been open about my conditions on LinkedIn, and my story was even published in the local news. And even if potential employers do not discriminate against me, cancer fatigue and perimenopause hot flashes have made my productive hours rather unpredictable.

Truth be told, I'm not even sure if I want to remain in human resources. Fifteen years in, yet the profession still has a bad reputation of being a paper pusher. Recently, a fintech startup CEO made news for firing his entire HR team.

And the agency environment I've grown to love... from Dentsu to Weber Shandwick, it's easy to get caught up in the 24/7 news cycle and feel you're "always on".

Perhaps this is God's plan for me to focus on my physical healing for the time being. Day by day, I'm regaining strength and mobility through rehabilitative exercises. I do hope the medical appointments would lessen since I would no longer have an active income.

I have a new project in mind, and I named it "Blessings" (because Chris says 'Providence' is too difficult a word for everyday use). And just the other day, I chanced upon Blessings by Laura Story during a doom-scrolling session. The chorus reminded me:

"And what if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise?"

When I look back into my life events, I realized that God has always provided for me. Most of the time, I weren't even aware at those difficult moments. I could only see my pain, but not His grace. Despite the unbearable situations that come one after another, I know that God has allowed these to happen and He'll continue watching over me.
